UPDATE: Cyclist dies after being hit by truck on residential Kelowna street

(UPDATE: April 10 @ 3:20 pm) - The Kelowna RCMP has confirmed that the collision between a truck and cyclist on a quiet residential street this morning was fatal.

Police say the 77-year-old male cyclist was hit by the "large pickup truck" at the intersection of Highland Drive South and Lamby Place around 8:30 am today.

He was rushed to hospital but has since succumbed to his injuries.

According to the RCMP, the driver of the pickup was eastbound on Highland Drive South and the cyclist was northbound on Lamby Place when they collided in the intersection.

The truck driver remained at the scene and the vehicle was towed away around 1 pm, more than four hours after the fatal incident.

“It is not necessary for us to share any further information at this time, and we offer our sincerest condolences to the family,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

The Kelowna RCMP's municipal traffic division and their criminal crash investigation team are leading the probe.
