SRI Homes Kelowna has announced it will permanently close its modular home manufacturing facility located in Lake Country, citing unsustainable market conditions and rising operating costs.
The company, which has served communities across British Columbia for years, said the decision was not made lightly.
According to Darren Bassett, general manager for SRI Homes BC, a range of challenges—including substantial cost increases—have made ongoing operations at the site unviable.
“This was not an easy decision, and we have delayed it as long as possible out of respect and commitment to our employees, customers, and the communities we serve,” said Bassett in a statement released Thursday.
“We are sorry for the impact this closure will have, and we will work closely with all of them to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.”
According to the company's website, the company had three manufacturing facilities in Western Canada, which has contributed to more than 10,000 home being built in BC.
The company has been building manufactured and modular homes in Kelowna for over 30 years.

Effective immediately, the Lake Country facility will cease production, except for homes already scheduled for delivery.
Customers seeking future modular home services are encouraged to contact SRI Regent in Lethbridge, Alberta, or Moduline Industries in Penticton, both of which remain operational.
The closure marks a significant moment for the local manufacturing sector and is expected to have ripple effects across the community.
SRI Homes did not specify the number of employees affected, but the website suggested they have over 150 total employees across their three sites.
The company said support measures will be in place during the transition.
